Phew, it’s been a long time I know, but I’ve had such a stressful Summer, there has been no time to update this blog.  Time to resurrect it now though I think.

My Micro-T is now finished.  The thing is, I just can’t stop messing with it.  Yesterday, I ordered a Xcelorin brushless conversion motor and ESC, together with the required servo and transmitter.  With the 2s lipo I already have, it should make it very quick.

Does anyone know how quick these things go when converted to brushless?  Would love to hear from anyone that’s already done it.

The speculation surrounfing Rafael Benitez’s future has been resolved tonight, as Liverpool FC announce that he has signed a new 5 year deal, keeping him at the club until 2014.  In signing the new deal, Benitez said:

“My heart is with Liverpool, so I’m delighted to sign this new deal. “I love the club, the fans and the city and with a club and supporters like this, I could never say no to staying.”

I think the vast majority of Liverpool fans will be delighted.  Despite the fact that he sometimes makes infuriating decisions, you only have to look at what he has achieved since he arrived.  He’s  turned a sleeping giant into a team that’s won the Champions League, been to another final and is feared by all European teams.  On the domestic front, things have been less successful, but you only have to look at his resources compared to Man Utd and Chelsea to see how well he has done, especially this season.  I think personally, the Premier League is beyond us for another year, but given the right signings in the closed season (a striker and some wingers please Rafa!) and if Gerrard, Torres and Alonso remain fit next season, I do believe we will be closer still.
Great news for Liverpool.  In Rafa we trust.

Liverpool today reignited the title race, with another amazing performance, to back up their mid-week pummeling of Real Madrid.

Against a Man Utd team that hadn’t conceded a home goal for 4 1/2 months, Liverpool came back from a goal down, to turn out 1-4 winners, with a sublime performance.

It was a case of Liverpool’s superstars, brilliantly backed up by the supporting cast, playing to their wonderful best, whilst Man Utd’s supposed galacticos underperformed woefully.  How must Wayne Rooney be regretting his “hate” comments earlier on this week.

The title will still be won by Man Utd, barring a calamitous collapse on their part, but from one Liverpool fan, today, just today, I don’t care.  We’ve done the double over the old enemy and for a while at least, we have the bragging rights.

My Man Of The Match for today – Stephen Gerrard.

Credit where credit is due.  Liverpool were utterly magnificent on Tuesday.  You can argue as much as you want, how poor the current Real Madrid team are but they are still Real Madrid and were Spain’s form team until they came up against Rafa’s Liverpool.

As a Liverpool fan, you could tell within the first minute that Tuesday’s performance was going to be good.  Now let me ask the question – why can the attitude and application shown on Tuesday night not be applied against teams like Stoke and Fulham.  Sure, Liverpool can’t be expected to play as well in every match, but if they had set out to dominate in these sorts of matches, the lesser Premier League teams would just not cope.  It was as if, for once, Benitez decided to release the shackles and said “go for it”.  And how. The key players for Liverpool – Gerrard, Torres and Alonso are key too.  When they are all fully fit and in the team, Liverpool are such a hard team to beat.  Take out any one and they become a different and easier proposition.  To reach the Holy Grail and win the Premier League, we need the following:

  • Gerrard, Torres and Alonso to remain fit
  • Rafa to release the shackles in home matches
  • Another striker to replace Keane

Just then, maybe, we might regain what most Liverpool fans see as our trophy.

The BBC are reporting that a new, cheap method of manufacturing Lithium batteries, could pave the way for providing batteries that charge in seconds and are at much lower risk of exploding or overheating.

This potentially removes an area for concern for many RC fans.  Have a look at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7938001.stm for more details.
Is this the future for electric RC cars?

Tomorrow sees Liverpool take on the mighty Real Madrid, at Anfield.  Following the first leg, in which Liverpool scored 1-0, a draw or win would take Liverpool into the last 8 of the Champions League.

Liverpool were tactically superb in the first game and frustrated Real, never giving them a chance to score.  Tomorrow will be interesting as Real need to come and attack but I fully expect Liverpool to win the tie.  Benayou, who scored the winner in the Bernabeau, is a major doubt for the match though, having pull up in training with a hamstring injury.  Torres is back in training but Rafa is leaving it until the last minute before deciding on his fitness.  Interestingly, if you’re a betting man, Paddy Power are doing a special deal for Liverpool supporters, where having a £10 bet on the match entitles you to a free £20 bet.  Click here for details.

Come on you Reds!!

I’ve just got back from Sheffield Ice, with my mate and his kids and have thoroughly enjoyed my first ever ice skating session.  I did wonder, after the initial 30 seconds how I would ever be able to keep upright but after a few tenatative laps, i was surprised how I could skate without holding on to the sides.  I am proud to say that I didn’t fall once!  I will definitely be taking Josh in the near future.

Gotta go now, the sis is doing my tea.  Fritata apparently, which I believe is a posh omlette………….

It’s been a while since I posted some Micro-T photos, but here are some since I upgraded it to alloy/carbon.  I think it looks pretty cool.  It’s cost me a fortune to do it, but it’s such a solid little car now, it should survive most that me or Josh can throw at it.  The parts are mostly 3Racing (carbon chassis), Atomic (shocks), and GPM (alloy bits).  I would welcome any comments on how good or bad a job I’ve done!!

My Dad and I together with Josh,  made the trip to Scholes, near Cleckheaton, this morning, for a Keborough match.  As is usually the case, it was a freezing cold, blustery morning.  The kids seemed unaffected by it all though, and Kexborough ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.  That consolodates their 3rd place league spot for now.  Josh had a fairly quiet game but was effective nonetheless, especially down the wing.

It was a fitting close to my timr with Josh this weekend.  We’ve watched football, played football, taken the radio controlled cars out and generally done good Dad and Son things.  He’s only been gone a few hours and I miss him loads already but roll on Monday when I see him again.
